Grob Aerospace delivers additional two G 120A Trainers for Canadian Air Force
Grob Aerospace has delivered two additional G 120A-C primary training aircraft to Kelowna Flightcraft Leasing Ltd of Canada, who through subsidiary company Allied Wings, provide the Canadian Air Force with primary pilot training from its aviation centre in Southport Manitoba. The repeat order for an additional two trainers was placed in June 2007, just one year after the original nine-strong aircraft fleet entered service. In placing a follow on order, the Canadian Air Force applauded the G120A’s exceptional versatility, allowing it to handle more advanced tasks `downloaded` from more expensive aircraft. The new aircraft incorporate two new systems which will be retrofitted on the original fleet in the very near future. The first is an electric trim system to allow the pilot to trim both roll and pitch from the joy- stick. The second is a modification enhancing flying capability at sustained low power setting in temperatures below minus 20 degrees Celsius. The G 120A-C has been modified to meet the demanding Canadian Air Force specifications and is certified to deliver the full range of primary flying training tasks, including instrument flying with part-glass cockpit, navigation, full aerobatics and formation flying.  Full Story  - Grob G 120 A Overview Grob Aerospace News

Boeing Sponsors Flight of Historic Airplanes Over Washington, D.C.
The Boeing Company is sponsoring a flyover of four historic military airplanes in honor of U.S. airmen who died during World War II and in subsequent conflicts. The event will take place on Thursday, April 10, at 1:15 p.m. The airplanes will take off from Andrews Air Force Base, will cross the airspace around Ronald Reagan National Airport (which will close briefly to accommodate the event) and will circle the Air Force Memorial before returning to Andrews. Spectators will be able to view the flyover from the grounds of the memorial (accessed by car via I-395 and Columbia Pike) as well as from multiple points along the Potomac River in Arlington and Washington, D.C.
The American Air Museum (AAM) in Duxford, England, organized the flyover, which features a B-17 Flying Fortress (made by Boeing), a P-51D Mustang (made by North American Aviation, now a part of Boeing), a P-40 Kittyhawk (made by Curtiss Wright), and a Spitfire (made by Vickers Armstrong).
Air Chief Marshal Sir Peter Squire, president of the AAM and chairman of the Imperial War Museum in the United Kingdom, will preside over the event and pay tribute to the thousands of airmen who sacrificed their lives in defense of freedom. Joining him for the ceremony at the memorial will be former British Prime Minister (and honored guest) Sir John Major; Lt. Gen. John Bradley, commander, U.S. Air Force Reserve Command; and Richard Ashton, executive vice president, AAM. Boeing News

Diamond Aircraft introduces Synthetic Vision on DA40 Diamond Stars
Diamond Aircraft Industries has introduced the new Garmin Synthetic Vision Technology (SVT) for new DA40 Diamond Stars. Garmin's SVT presents a 3D depiction of terrain, obstacles and traffic on the G1000's Primary Flight Display (PFD) so that the avionics panel replicates what pilots would see outside the cockpit on a clear day. "With Diamond having been the launch platform for the Industry Standard G1000, it is only appropriate that we continue to lead by introducing this most modern of safety enhancements to general aviation," said Peter Maurer, President of Diamond Aircraft. "The technology is incredible, but what is really sensational is the price. Until now, Synthetic Vision of this quality was reserved for military or large jets, and cost several hundred thousand dollars. Garmin truly deserves credit for pioneering such affordable safety enhancements." Full Story and Photos Diamond Aircraft News
